Pitch your sci-fi documentary idea

For the third year running Sky One are running their Sky One Development Prize at Sheffield Doc/Fest. This year they’re asking production companies to pitch their ideas for:

A new documentary series or factual entertainment series aimed primarily at adults for 10pm on our Sci-Fi night.

The winning production company will be awarded £5000 to develop their idea for Sky One.

Tuesday night is sci-fi night on Sky One and there is an opportunity for a new series to transmit at 10pm after Battlestar Gallactica. They are looking for bold ideas which have an entertaining heart to them which will appeal to their sci-fi fans on a Tuesday night. The subject matter could be sci-fi related, strange but true, paranormal, weird events…. you decide. They can be formatted, constructed, presenter or expert led, an event or more observational – it’s your choice. Here are a few pointers worth bearing in mind when developing any ideas for Sky One.

1. A strong PR hook will make it easy for our press guys to get lots of media coverage and bring viewers to the programme.
2. Engaging subjects which viewers are already interested in work best.
3. Do we care about the characters and the outcome of the programme?

The top 6 ideas submitted by production companies will be pitched to Sky One commissioning editors Emma Read and Andrew O’Connell in front of an audience at the Sheffield Doc/Fest and the winning idea from the pitch will win the £5000 development prize.

If your company would like to enter the Sky One Development Prize please submit your ideas via e-mail to: Nicola White, Assistant to Emma Read, Commissioning Editor at nicola.white@bskyb.com quoting Sheffield Sky One Development Prize.

Deadline for entries: 12th October 2007
